About Randy Rowland
Randy Rowland Curriculum Vitae (pdf) is a graduate
of Middlebury College in Vermont. He earned his MBA specializing in finance at
the University of Vermont and began his professional life as a CPA. Since 1988,
beginning with his own family business in New York City, Bertholon-Rowland Corp.
(B-R), he has used the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) as
a tool to help individuals answer the question "who am I, and who are these
people around me?"
At BR, the MBTI workshops were an important
precursor to an employee buyout of the family shareholders. The buyout
was accomplished using an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) trust.
With the employees as owners, the promotion of a sense of responsibility,
a culture of ownership, became job #1. However, thinking like an owner
is not assured by simple fact of ownership. Open book management was
implemented, and was accompanied
by continuous training in deciphering financial statements, understanding
the complete product cycle, and by involving everyone in the planning
process. Underlying all these steps were MBTI workshops which enabled
individuals from the corner office to the mail room to work together
in a respectful, productive and, yes, even fun, manner.
Through his leadership of an energized, employee-owned enterprise, Randy
was drawn to understanding a broader view of organizational leadership
throughout the business world. What motivates people to perform at their
highest potential? It begins with understanding who we are at the core
of our being, an understanding that comes from an MBTI
workshop.
More recently, Randy has linked the MBTI and the growing body of knowledge
about our Emotional Intelligence (EQ as
opposed to IQ). Studies have shown that one's
EQ is a far greater indicator of leadership success than one's
IQ. Gain a greater understanding of how EQ relates
